VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Alexandria Library. The goal of the Alexandria Library’s Volunteer Program is to enhance the Library’s ability to provide quality services to the public. The Volunteer Program brings a wealth of benefits to the Library, its staff, the community, and the volunteer.

Volunteers CAN

  • help in many ways such teaching English Language Learning classes, offering computer assistance, assisting with program set-up, crowd control, and clean up to name a few.

Volunteers CAN’T

  • serve in ways that would jeopardize customer confidentiality and the customer’s right to privacy.
  • present story times or read aloud in the Youth Services Department.

Because libraries work with a wide variety of people, including a number of vulnerable populations, Alexandria Library has a lengthy application, orientation, and training process. Accepted applicants will be asked to submit to a background check run by the City of Alexandria.
