Come join Barrett Branch Library and IREX to learn how to detect and build resilience against misleading information, emotional manipulation, and "fake news."

Misinformation and disinformation have emerged in recent years as one of our most urgent and challenging problems. In the United States, these issues are increasingly complex, amplified by a broadly accessible and rapidly evolving digital media landscape, political polarization, and a loss of trust across institutions such as the government, science, and the news media.

Learn to Discern is an interactive training and skills building approach to media literacy education that addresses emotional responses to news and information and teaches the latest critical information consumption and disinformation detection skills.

Registration is limited to 15 participants. Register here

A nonprofit organization committed to global development and education, IREX has focused on people and communities since 1968. With an annual portfolio of $90 million and 400 staff worldwide, IREX works with partners in more than 100 countries in four areas essential to progress: empowering youth, cultivating leaders, strengthening institutions, and extending access to quality education and information. We work with partners around the world to increase people's ability to engage with vibrant information, strengthen independent media, and broaden access to quality education.

IREX first implemented its Learn to Discern approach to counter highly sophisticated disinformation campaigns in Ukraine. We are now piloting the curriculum in the United States with local communities and journalists.
